This one is all about the money: student finance and budgeting.
😊 Welcome
For many final year school students, right now the only thing on their mind will be their impending exams.
Meanwhile many parents are looking a little further down the line and are wondering just how much student life is all going to cost; for them, and their sons and daughters. And so, in a slightly different newsletter from normal, this week we focus on money.
In particular, we look at how student finance works, and how students and parents can work together to create the right budget.
We also learn an important fact about applying for student finance.
✍️ Fees, loans and grants
Student finance is complicated. And to make it even more complicated, there are different arrangements for students, depending on where they come from, and where they study. This article unpicks it all and gives a comprehensive overview of the system for fees, loans and grants, no matter where you are from.
I also direct you to the websites you need for your specific case.
✍️ Setting and managing your budget
Budgeting for most students is something best done collaboratively with their parents.
In this article I take you through how to work together so that you know how much money you’ll need, plus how much finding you’ll receive, in order that you can work out how to cover the shortfall.
💡 Did you know?
Loads of parents on social media are confused as to when their sons and daughters should apply for student finance. After all, they won’t know for certain where they will definitely be studying until they have made their final choice AND received their exam results.
Well… the answer is if you are starting your course this September, you should apply right now in order to have the funding in place for the beginning of your course.
Just put in the course that you are choosing as your UCAS Firm Choice. If this changes later, because of exam results or anything else, you can change it at that point.
All the links for applying are contained in Fees, loans and grants.
That’s all for this week!
